War of the Worlds

During the year 1938, an episode of the American radio drama anthology series "The Mercury Theatre on the Air" was broadcasted on CBS Radio. In this episode, Orson Welles narrated an adaptation of H. G. Wells’ novel "The War of the Worlds" (1898). However, he scared the nation into believing that this was an actual news reportage where a Martian invasion was taking place in the U.S. This broadcast was said to cause mass panic within the country, with reports of mass stampedes and many angered listeners. The scale of this panic, however, is disputed.

This project illustrates a small portion of the radio broadcast through the use of visuals and audio sourced through various collections of creative commons combined with my own motion graphics design and editing.
